Oh Man

Hot dang! The bathroom is getting so close to being done!

Let me fill you in on today's progress.

Yep, those are painted walls and a fully finished tile floor!!

I'm still in shock to see how far we've come and to see the picture in our heads coming to life. We chose Silent Delight from Olympic for the wall color. This is a colder white that has a slight blue tint. I knew I didn't want stark white but I needed it to have some sort of undertone to help contrast the room.

Before the color went up, it was very obvious that the tub is bisque while the toilet and sink are white. Now that we have color on the wall, I think everything will blend beautifully.

Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

This is where we started...

This was during...

And now...

The mirror and faucet are set to be delivered tomorrow and if luck ( and time) are on our side, the sink could be in by tomorrow night.

It's been a long enough day.

Here's to Staycation day 4!

Staycation Day 3

So far so good on our Dtaycation 2K15 efforts. Today we had lunch on the boat and now we've finished the day out at a Brews and Blues event.

We love our little town.

And if you're wondering, this is how things ended up last night.

We have to let the tile set for 24 hours before we walk on it so no bathroom projects today. Good thing, we're out of cupcakes.

Happy Saturday!

Sneak Peak

Here it is, folks!

This was my number one favorite part of this entire project! We have laid the tile and figured out where to put everything. Now we have it laying in the living room and were about to glue it into place.

Why did I enjoy this? Because I love jigsaw puzzles and this was just that. A big puzzle but with a 2 year old crawling on my back. At one point, he was digging a razor into my back. Luckily the guard was up.

I love him.

Rules

Rules were made to be broken, right? Well, I've already broken rule one of Staycation 2k15.

We started our morning out on the back porch for breakfast and coffee. We then walked into town for B to get a haircut and to look through a few shops. We decided to head home and go to Home Depot to get the rest of the supplies needed for the bathroom. As we were getting things together, I noticed my wallet was MIA. I usually leave my work bag in the car when I get home from work so I figured I would check there.

The panic began when I had emptied the entire contents of my bag into the back seat of my car and no wallet fell out. I remembered I had used my card to get a drink out of the machine for lunch and I figured I hadn't put it back. Then in the mad sprint out the door before they asked me to work extra, my wallet was left behind.

Here's where the rule breaking comes in. I had to call work to get someone to of look and then we drove all the way up there to get it but I got lunch out of the deal so I'm fine with it all.

We've retired to the porch for some book reading. We'll keep at least one rule.

Staycation

It is finally here. The 6 days we've been waiting on for a month!

Our Staycation.

We had started to make plans to go to the beach for a last minute family trip but decided that staying home was ok too. We've planned out a few things to do around our area that J hasn't been able to enjoy just yet. My favorite plan? The train museum. That place is going to blow J's mind.

What are the rules for Staycation?

1.) No work calls or emails. Well, B has already violated this one because he has an hour long call on Tuesday.

2.) No house chores that are done in a speedy fashion. They very rarely are so we'll say this is the gimme.

3.) No alarms. And to enforce this rule, the phones will be on do not disturb until J wakes us up.

4.) Lots of reading. If nothing else gets done this week, I'm going to read at least one chapter of my book. Oh yeah, it takes me that long. There just isn't enough time in the day.

We're pretty excited about it all but as I lay here in bed, I can see a thin layer of sheetrock dust on the dresser. It's all I can do to not grab a shirt and wipe it away. Wish us luck.

Lights!

While I was away, B accomplished this...

Heck yeah! Those are recessed lights!!! Aren't they beautiful?

We have a Staycation coming up so we may get the whole thing done by then.

Here comes the nervous gas.

Mirrors, Faucets and Paint...Shoot Me

We have finally settled on some of the accents to our bathroom. We had a hard time with the lights and the mirror for that matter. We want a very minimalist look to the room. We don't want any one feature to stand out and steal the spot light so when it came to lights, we were very specific on what we wanted. We knew we wanted clear glass for an Edison bulb and chrome plates. Well, that is easier said than done. But this is what we chose...

This was a tough purchase because we knew we wanted a pivot mirror but didn't want it to be too modern. We aren't modern and this particular piece wasn't going to going to determine that. Also, mirrors are very expensive. The ones we really liked were from Restoration Hardware and were about $500 for one just like this one. The mirror has shipped already and should be here by the end of the week. Exciting stuff.

Next up was the faucet. I definitely knew what I wanted here too but finding it was difficult because they can get a little pricey too.

We ended up with exactly what we wanted and saved a little money too. Yay, us!

Now we have to decide on paint. I'm not even sure where to begin on that one. Any suggestions would be nice!!

Today

Nothing was done on the bathroom but we now have clean dishes, clothes to wear tomorrow, groceries in the fridge and clean floors incase J decides he needs to eat something he finds.

Go me!

24 Hours

A mere 24 hours later and this is what we have...

No, this probably doesn't look like a lot to anyone but we actually finished up the pipe moving, hung the Sheetrock and later the first two layers of the floor.

Technically the next step is to lay tile but we're taking a break and going to focus on the paint and the household chores that have taken a backseat to the project.

I love these little things we do because we both learn something new. This particular time we've learned how to move pipes...

Can't wait to do the tile. Can't lie, knowing tile is coming gives me the nervous gas.

My Promise

I promised. So here it is.

Ok, before you storm my house with pitchforks and torches, know this, I've been tearing up tile all day and I didn't expect my craft room post to be like this. My room is actually torn apart because we're moving pipes in preparation for the sink upstairs.

Good times.

And this should tell you what's going on in that department.

Oh yeah. Didn't expect this when we pulled the Sheetrock off. Now we have to cut and move pipes around.

But this is from after the tile was taken up.

I'm pooped and in need of a cupcake.

Tomorrow

I'm making a promise. Maybe I'll hold to it a little better than I have this "post every day" deal. Tomorrow I promise to bring you a big fat craft room update/reveal because tomorrow I will enlist your help in getting me through the bathroom remodel that will take place this weekend. Do I expect the bathroom to be finished?

Not a chance.

But I do hope to be able to walk across new tile by Saturday night. I don't think we have enough cupcakes.

While you wait, check this guy out. Spot. On.

No, K. His name is pronounced Mac Entire. Not Mac En Teary.

Enjoy!

Kisses

I've been able to pick up J from daycare lately and I've loved every minute of it.  I really enjoy all the love the babies give me when I walk in the room. I'm not sure why they do it, but every time I go to get J, I always squat down to his level to give him a hug, then all the babies (girl babies) walk over and talk to me. One little girl likes to cuddle when I walk in. Her name is E and I love her little hugs.

This captures exactly how I feel every time I see those kiddos.

But today had a little different spin. E walked over to give me a hug and while I was talking to her, J's teacher informed me that J and E were trying to kiss each other today. First of all, I think it's kind of cute but I also know he can't do this much longer. Second, I don't know what to do with this information. They aren't even two! How do you discipline that?

The story gets better. His teacher also informed me that my little player had a different love interest before E. E K was his first interest and she is currently out of school with her mom who is on maternity leave.

So we already have some commitment issues. Great.

The Plan

Clearly, my Pinterest board for the bathroom remodel isn't getting through to B so I'll just post all of the ideas here.

Good news! We bought a sink today! Never thought I'd ever be so excited about anything in my life.

Here she is...

Insert ridiculous emoticon with heart eyes here.

And the sink has to have some bling... right?

Definitely running into some road blocks on this one. Turns out, those little ceramic tops on the knobs really add to the price.

The floor will, hopefully, look something like this...

Next up is the lights. We're definitely torn on this one. There are so many great options out there but this is what we're thinking...

But I also like this guy too...

Either way, we'll be putting in some recessed lights too.

We haven't begun to choose the paint for the walls. We know it isn't going to be the current purple so that's a start. We begin Friday.

We have cupcake, chocolate chip pound cake and plenty of rainbow frosting.

They Erk Me

Things that are bugging me tonight:

1.) Bundt pans. What's the deal here? I've made the same cake two weeks in a row and both times the cake didn't fall out of the pan like cranberry sauce out of its can. The first time I oiled and floured the pan and tried to remove it about an hour after it finished cooking. Last night I just oiled it and let it sit all night before I tried to remove it. What happened, you ask? Well, half the cake fell out of the pan and the other half, so stubbornly, clung to the inside of the pan. I threw the pan down, yelled some not nice things at it and then got ready for church. Don't worry, I prayed extra hard.

2.) Pedestal sinks. Do you know how hard it is to purchase a pedestal sink? A little harder than it sounds. They come in two separate pieces. What's the deal there? The sink basin is only made for one pedestal. SELL THEM TOGETHER!!!!

3.) J's temper tantrums. This is my second not-so-churchly moment of the day. After a lengthy church service (due to new ground breaking and lunch), I sent B to stand in the ridiculous line for food while J and I headed to the playground to wear off some energy. We were walking across the parking lot and J tripped and fell in a pot hole. My arms were full of the things we feel we need to bring into church each Sunday so I set everything down and helped him stand back up. He's such a baby. He falls down and lays there, on his tummy, arms and legs bowed out as if the asphalt is lava. We began to continue our trek across the parking lot and he decided it was time for a tantrum. I stood about 10 feet in front of him, watching while he jumped up and down, screamed and threw his paci only to scream louder because I wouldn't pick it up. All of this was going on in the parking lot. At the front of the parking lot. On Main Street. At 12:30 on a Sunday. You're welcome, Buford, for the show.

That is all for this weekend's frustrations. Happy Monday!!

Move Along

There is absolutely nothing interesting going on in this house. B is all "Let's do this" on the bathroom remodel and I'm all like "Sure! After I eat all the cupcakes in the house..... with a gallon of milk". Needless to say, we're clashing.

My Jackey Wackey Poo! Those glasses! That snot.

I just can't handle this.

The Rainbow Chip Frosting is calling my name.

J's Bathroom

Before...

After...

A girl can dream, right? This was a floor model at a flooring store. I'm in love with the tile...

And the tub...

And the water faucet...

And the fact that it's in a busy store but is still 10x cleaner than any of my bathrooms.

Posts

I saw a post on Pinterest tonight that said rocking a baby is a lot less like a Johnson and Johnson commercial and more like wrestling a 20 pound bag of snakes.

So much truth.

I also had the thought over dinner that I don't think there's been a single day since J was born that one, if not both, of us didn't burst into tears. More him than me.

We're a work in progress.

The Bathroom

I haven't even taken the time to update you on my craft room progress/completion and B has already started on our bathroom remodel. It's like a renovation revolving door around here.

This is currently all we've done. Scary, right?

We plan to tear up the tile and reptile with this lovely lady...

Then we're ripping out the sink to replace it with a pedestal sink and painting the walls some unknown color.

Wish us luck. And the craft room update will be coming soon.

Same Fight, Different Day

Every night, J and I go through the same fight. We usually end up taking a shower together because it cuts down on time and is easier. When the shower is over, I remove his squeaky clean body from the shower and I wrap him up, in the same way as I do every night, in a  towel then it's off to his bedroom we go which I have lovingly deemed the Death Chamber.

Sometimes I feel like I'll never see the light of day after I go in but I also know that this is the last stop of the day. I can almost see the light at the end of a very long tunnel. I just have to fight my kid into pajamas to really get there.

I would let him sleep in just a diaper if I didn't run the risk of waking up to a poop and pee filled bed the next morning. There is nothing worse on this planet than having to change a crib mattress sheet. Seriously, I would rather take a dirty fork to the eye than to change that sheet.

When pajama time rolls around, J does everything possible to get off the changing table. That tiny little body has a freakish amount of strength and I'm not always willing to fight it. He usually ends up a onesie that isn't even buttoned. No lotion, no cutsie songs and body party naming. Once the kid hits the table, it's like an 8 second ride and you had better come out with your body intact.

Despite the fight, we both know what's coming to us and neither of us want to change. It's the Evans stubbornness that plagues us both.

Pray for us.

Little Man

My little guy has been at Camp Maw Maw for the last two nights and I don't know what to do with myself. All I have done is look at pictures of him on my phone.

This was almost a year ago. I miss that chubby face.

Thank goodness for technology with time stamped pictures!

Breakfast

Yes, I know. Technically I'm late on my post. Me and B were out for date night and came home late.

Love that thing!

But because I love you.....

And I want to share these pictures, all you night owls are getting a treat.

This was J from breakfast this morning...

Only a face a mother could love.

Nutella and bananas for breakfast.

He's been calling every picture of a woman Maw Maw which is the name my dad has picked out for my mom. Today this was the picture he thought was his Maw Maw...

Yep. She's black. Good going, J. Maybe I should make that customized board book of pictures of his family.

Gotta love him!

My Hubby

Sometimes when I know I'll be at work late and may not get to see J, I ask B to send me a J picture.

I did just that tonight and this is what I got....

Well, you get what you ask for...

Right?

Indulgences

Let me first say that I'm very well aware of the post I missed yesterday. The stomach bug has made its way through our house and last night was my turn.

But don't worry. In between bouts with the porcelain throne, I had this entertainment.

Maybe the fact that I obtained them all on Friday should be a bad omen. But the magazines and the fact that The Golden Girls was on all weekend on various channels helped me get through my unwelcomed visitor.

Here's to hoping your family missed the bug. And you're able to make the strawberry cheesecake bars on the Food Network magazine.

The Coaster

I think I've mentioned this before. I have a coaster in the craft room that has a picture of The Golden Girls. J picked it up today, pointed to Bea Arthur and said "Maw Maw".

I'm not sure if that's an insult or compliment to my mom.
