The Cone

This was the result of last night's murder scene...

Yep. The Cone of Death is upon us and everyone but Bonnie is laughing. It's seriously the funniest thing I've ever watched.

It All Falls Apart

Today was a half decent day at work.

And then I came home...

First I find Dog in the front yard on her leash. She tends to run around barking at things so we sometimes chain her while she's going potty. I walk over to unchain her and bring her in and what do I see? Blood on the driveway. As if I didn't see enough for the past 12 hours. So in we go.

That's when I spot the ridiculously tired J in the bathtub and an even more tired B trying to tend to him. We agree that I will shower with Dog to clean her up and then we can enjoy the Chipotle I grabbed on the drive home.

15 minutes later, Dog is clean and I'm showering with cold water. That's ok, I've got 5 pounds of amazing fast food mexican, wine and chocolate coming my way.

As we're drying Dog off, she started bleeding again. But just a little. I run to grab a towel and then we've got a blood bath on my WHITE tile bathroom floor. Next comes nurse B with his first aid kit. A bottle of hydrogen peroxide later, I have what looks like a murder scene in my bathroom. Not to mention, all of the ruckus has woken up the little person sleeping in the other room. Who, by the way, had two bowel movements so bad at daycare, that he had to be bathed. Ugh.

Dog drips her way to the garage and I get in a little snuggle time with J. We set up a small operating room in the garage and bandage her foot for a little while. All the while, Cat poops in his litter box across the room. So much for sterile technique.

Now it's time to clean up the blood soaked house while wondering how much blood a dog can actually lose. And I say clean up but I really mean just push the dirt around with a wet mop. It's the closest my floors have come to being mopped in a while.

At 9, we were finally able to sit down and enjoy our dinner and now the grout in my bathroom is stained just like the other bathroom.

I'm done. Wednesday, you win.

The Lake

Construction has begun on my normal commute to work so I'm having to take back roads to cut my commute time in half. The plus side to this is I get to drive over the dam. This was today's view...

You're welcome.

Floors

I was able to sneak downstairs and work on the floors today.

Remember how I was doubting if this was the right decision? My anymore! I'm in love with the reflection of the doors in the floor. This was a picture right after the floors had been rolled with sealer so, now that they're dry, they're l a little less glossy but I'll be adding a second coat when I get another chance. For now, I love it.

Note to self, open a door next time.

Close Call

I almost went to bed without posting. I guess it isn't so bad to lay in bed and think of everything I forgot while B happily drifts off to lala land.

J spent Saturday night if the grandparents. This was a picture I received later in the night.

I remember falling asleep this exact same way with my dad when I was little. It makes me so happy to see that J finds comfort in the same place.

I love you, Dad!

Donuts

We bought donuts tonight for the snack at Sunday school tomorrow. When we got home, I had taken Dog out to pee/wander around in the yard. When I got in, I opened the donut box and the following conversation occurred:

Me: B B! Did you eat a donut!?
B: ..... No! We've been jipped.

Try again, B.

Morning

Good morning! I forgot to post last night. This is why...

We went swimming.

Loss

My work family is amazing. How many of you can actually say that? I've never known of group of women to act like sisters more than enemies. We share in each other's triumphs and, unfortunately, each other's losses. They are all beautiful, talented and thoughtful women.  I'm blessed beyond words to have the opportunity to get to know them and to work with them.

I love you, NSF FCC RNs!

Sleep

Sleep is a beautiful thing, isn't it? The night before I start work I don't sleep well. Like, at all. And apparently neither does B. We all had a hard time last night. B peed a countless number of times and J woke up at 4 a.m. talking to the dog.

J went to bed before the sun went down tonight and needless to say, we are turning in ourselves.

This is what I leave you with...

Not sure when it was taken but we look pretty happy right?

Not to mention, rested too.

6 Days

I've been off for 6 days.

6 straight days of J lovin'! Now I have to go to work and I'm dreading it. This is like maternity leave all over again. Except I actually want to spend time with him now.

But I can say my days were productive. I did my floors last week, I washed, dryed and folded (with the help of Mom) 6 loads of laundry plus diapers and I also did this ...

I finally got around to buying some tie backs for my curtains. It's amazing how much that helped our room, despite the stink hound that likes to share the room with us. Sometimes I feel I'm a guest in her home.

Don't forget, MOFY night tomorrow!

Today

Today while I was cleaning up the kitchen after lunch I heard a little rumble. I decided to check the weather app because it was sunny outside. That's when I saw the tornado warning. I think I pooed a little. I quickly text B who gave me directions to head to the basement. So that's what I did. I headed to the basement with a sleeping J and waited out the storm.

Oh yeah, Cat and Dog came too.

That's a live weather feed that I wasn't able to watch.

The storm passed and we were spared but I don't think others south of us were as fortunate. Prayers to them and their families tonight.

No matter how frightening it was for me, at least I wasn't this guy...

Yup. This is the view B had from his office...

On the 15th floor. Apparently no one told the window cleaners there was a tornadic storm in the area.

Some serious pooing would have occurred if that were me.

The Floor

O.M.G.

What have I done?

Before I got started on the floor in the craft room, B sweetly reminded me that I was basically tattooing the house because this was going to be a permanent thing.

Thanks, B.

This is where I started...

Ugh. I hate those floors. No matter how they turn out, they're going to be better than this. And no, I haven't decided on what I want to do with the exposed ceiling. I think I'm going to leave it as it because it kind of adds a crafty look to a craft rom.

This is what we had after the stain went down...

Now, this isn't a picture of it dry. The stain went on thick so it may take a little while to completely dry. I was able to walk across most of it. I'm not crazy about the results but I also think it will look better once I get the lacquer down and new lighting.

I chose Behr Semi Transparent water based stain. I chose water based instead of acid because it is much safer to use and much easier to find. The acid stain would have been ideal but I would have had to neutralize the stain quickly after it went down and and I would have had to buy it online.

I chose semi transparent because I wanted the original colors of the concrete to show through. Acid is great for this because the acid reacts with the chemical make up of the concrete and makes different colors. I don't think I achieved the intended look because I put the stain on a little too thick. The directions on applying stain are kind of vague so I was doing this on my own. There also aren't a lot of people who have tried this so there wasn't anyone to ask. If I had the option to do it again, I probably would just because I know what to do differently next time.

And this is the picture I promised yesterday...

Isn't he beautiful!? We were really enjoying the ducks and then this happened...

Oh yeah. Big dumb pooch decided she wanted to play too. Good bye ducks. We haven't seen them since.

New Pond Members

I'm being a little lazy tonight. We have a few new family members in the front yard and I have photo evidence but my computer is upstairs, my camera is in the kitchen and who knows where the cable is to transfer said pictures to the computer. So you'll just have to take my work for it.

First up, Tiny's lady friend has returned!! I guess she thought he sproosed the place up when we added the goldfish and the flowers started blooming. Whatever it was, it worked.

We also have two ducks!!! I'm so excited about this little development. B wants to call them Cheese and Quackers. The names are still up for debate but either way, it's definitely a male and female Mallard. You know what that means!  DUCKLINGS!!! I've already started nesting.

The ducks were settling into their new home nicely until Dog decided she wanted to play. I wish I could have recorded the madness that Me and B got to watch while drinking our coffee this morning.

More importantly, the concrete stain will go down tomorrow. These are the contenders...

My favorite so far is the top. We'll just see what I'm in the mood for tomorrow when we get to the store to actually chose the stain.

Esh! I'm almost finished with the craft room! I think I have nervous gas.

Toddler Food

I know I've been meaning to post this for a while but I've had a hard time figuring out where to start because the truth is, I have no clue what J eats. He changes his food preferences every single day and I've just learned to roll with it. Some days he loves hotdogs but he wouldn't touch them tonight. He's tried scrambled eggs 10 times and actually ate them once. The thing he is consistent with is fruit. Any fruit you put in front of him, he devours. But, unfortunately, grapes don't get along with his tiny GI system but it is his favorite of all fruits.

Tonight he ate this...

(Yes, that's a tear. He had shots at the pediatrician today and at the end of the day, his thighs swell and get a little sore.)

This was actually his first time trying corn on the cob. I didn't plan on giving him any but he was watching me eat mine and started whining to try it. So he did and he loved it. But, for some reason, he didn't touch his green beans which is something he normally eats. I've also found that the way a meal is prepared can be the deciding factor on if he eats it or not. For example, he loves french fries and will even eat a cubed potato but he hates mashed potatoes and baked potato soup. He loves macaroni and cheese out of a box but isn't too crazy about homemade macaroni and cheese but will eat it any way.

This particular night he had Spaghettio's. Those are always a safe bet but I want him to have some healthy eating habits too. Plus, he's practicing his spoon skills and this is the perfect dish for that. Milk is also a staple on the dinner tray. Breakfast and dinner I try to get him to drink milk while lunch and snacks are juice oriented. Grandma's house is a special place for chocolate milk. I've learned that grandmothers are just going to be those people that will have different rules at their houses. The quick a new mom learns that, the better off she'll be. But, chocolate milk is also a treat in our house on Friday nights too.

Mornings are the easiest meal we have. He loves "nanas" for breakfast. I usually try to pair it with something so he's full but I think he's more like me and isn't crazy about breakfast. This morning he had a banana and a piece of cheese toast. I sat down to eat breakfast with him and he ended up eating all of my yogurt. The kid LOVES greek yogurt but I'm not sure we want him making such a huge mess first thing in the morning so I feed it to him myself. I occasionally try grits with him too but he hasn't acquired that taste, yet. And he's getting more and more into dry cereal. His favorite used to be waffles but it's hit or miss on that one too. Sometimes he'll eat them up but other times he just isn't in the mood.

This is another dinner staple in our house, mini ravioli. He can't quite use a spoon with this one but it's great for picking up. Notice the fruit on his tray. Fruit makes it's way onto the tray for every dinner. I need to get better about vegetables but, let's face it, when you know he won't eat it, why waste the money? So, most of the time, the veggies he gets are actually off our own plates. Now that the warmer weather is here, we will probably load up on veggies a little more. One of his favorites is squash and he isn't particular about how it's cooked.

Snacks are the same every day. He either has animal crackers or Goldfish and he gets to choose. These snacks you can find in huge quantities so we always have them around.

I wish I could be a little more help when it comes to what J eats but he is going through so many phases with his food that it's hard to tell what he will eat up and what he will try to throw on the floor.

We usually put about 3 different things on his tray and I hope that he'll eat a little of each. If he's tried everything but ate all of one, I'll usually give him more of that particular thing. Again, I don't believe that he doesn't like something just because he didn't eat it at one meal. I usually wait a few weeks and give it another shot.

We also let him tell us when he's finished. I guess daycare has taught him to lift his plate up and I've taught him to say "All done" so he usually tells us when he's finished. If he didn't eat all of what was on his tray then I make him wait until the next time he has a snack to eat. This is just my own preference. I can't stand when kids graze all day long. I'm not leaving food out all day for him to eat at his convenience and I believe it sets up bad table habits for later on.

Good luck, A, with baby S but just from judging from the pictures you post, he looks incredibly healthy! While you figure out feeding him, I've got to figure out this whole discipline thing. :(

The Monkey Joe

I took the babe to Monkey Joe's today. This is what it looks like if you've never been...

Bouncy houses as far as the eye can see. This is where my sweet guy spent his day...

Well, at least he had a good time.

Conversations

We're never at a loss for conversations here in the B house. Tonight's little gem went something like this:

B: You know, golf can be a really relaxing and calming sport if you don't bring your buddies and a 12 pack along.
W: Really? I've never played before. When have you been golfing alone?
B: Well, I've been far enough behind to be alone.

Stay tuned, folks!

Picture Day

Picture day is a rough day in the B house. That's usually because we don't know it's picture day and Jack shows up in a spaghetti stained shirt with cereal in his hair and banana on his face. This time I was a mom on top of things. Every 6 months the daycare does pictures and the dates happen to fall on Jacks half birthday. 6 months, 1 year, 18 months.... You get the pattern. I called a month ago and asked when the next day was and that day is now upon us.

Last night, me and B got in J's room and picked out his picture outfit. Well, mainly B. I was entertaining J on the floor. His shirt is a button up so he even ironed it!!! This was the final product...

Isn't he the cutest?! Here's to a half decent school picture after a year of failed attempts.

Bikinis and Smells

You know what I hate about the warm weather? Smells are carried so much easier through the air and Heaven forbid it be a little wet because you'll get the full dining experience from 100 years away. It makes me eat so much more than I should.

And then I think you know what happens next.

Before I know it, I'm standing in the Old Navy dressing room trying to squeeze myself into the size that I swore I wore last summer and is now too small for my ankles. I then have a silent and private pity party and declare that this is the summer that I will get in shape. This is the year I will not eat my weight  in chips and dip. I will resist the chocolate pie that I love so much.

Ha!! What a lie. We all know I won't do those things. Then.....

BAM!

It's "bikini season" again. More like "seasonal depression". I'm feeling anxious already.

I think I'll go have another piece of lemon cake.

Vacay

Enjoy some pictures from our girl's week because I'm too lame to come up with a real title.

We had a great time and laughed entirely too much. Can't wait to do it again.

Date Night

I had a date tonight. Isn't that exciting? But let me bust your bubble for a minute. The date started after I had gotten back from a run so I didn't get to dress up. And I had to cook the food. And prepare the table. But I had the best date ever.

I even had to clean my date up after he made a mess.

I also had to pay and tip.

Welcome Back...

I made it home this afternoon to a very happy B and J. Then this is how B spent his night...

So this is how I spent my night...

Welcome home.

Home

It's bitter sweet. This girl's week has been great and we've had a great time but I'm ready to go home.

I miss Cat.

Jk.

I miss Dog too.

I also found out that J came home from daycare today with a scrapped knee. I also found out that B woke up to "Ddddaaaaaaaddddddddddyyyyyyy". He then walked in J's room to find him standing in the crib stark naked and his bed covered in pee.

Story still developing.

Do I really want to go home?

Phone Died

My phone died yesterday while we were out and about. But this is what we saw

Pictures don't do it justice.

Meanwhile, back at home, J pinched a little girl's cheeks at daycare yesterday and she then bit him. That'll teach him, right?

Story still developing.

Traveling

You know what I hate about traveling? When you have been waiting in line in the bathroom and when you go in the stall, the toilet is still flushing from the last person. I hate hashtags but #instantvomit.

B and I were getting ready for breakfast this morning and he said "Are you going to continue to post while you're in Vegas so I can still know all of your thoughts and feelings?" Glad he isn't worried about if I get places safely or if I'm having a good time. Nope. Homeboy just wants to know my feelings on bologna, liquid laundry detergent and David Backham.

Sleep

I was eating some Dove chocolates tonight and the message on the wrapper said "Get good sleep tonight". J is with his grandma tonight. Does that mean I've cheated at my Dove challenge?

-W

Oh Well

I promise, I wrote this last night and it didn't go through.

So I think we've already decided tat I've failed at this whole "post every day" thing. For two nights in a row, this has been my view.

Actually, last night I was watching Golden Girls on the porch. Do you blame me for missing last night?

Happy Easter!

It Has Started

We've entered a new level of parenting.

This is what I spent my night doing. Tomorrow is J's first school Easter Egg hunt. I spent the night stuffing Easter Eggs with fruit snacks. I also had to stop by the store and buy strawberries which is what he is bringing for his Easter party.

I kind of dreaded this moment in mommyhood but now that it's upon us, I'm kind of excited. We've got parties, candy and school functions coming our way.

Bring it on! I've got wine.

April Fool's

I didn't get pranked today and didn't prank anyone.

But let me tell you the best one I've heard so far. We have about 4 women who are preggo at work and one of the non pregger ones had a preggo one pee on a preggo testing stick. She then took the positive test home to her significant other.

Hilarious!!

Can you imagine?! B would freak!
